Anti-bias Curriculum

[WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 2, 4]

As an early childhood development professional, it is crucial that you build and maintain culturally relevant, anti-bias learning settings. There are four goals of anti-bias education, and these provide a framework for your work with children. For this discussion, you will read several case studies about different children and their families and identify ways to create culturally relevant, anti-bias learning opportunities for them.

Four Instructional Goals of Culturally Relevant, Anti-Bias Instruction

Goals Description

Goal 1Each child will demonstrate self-awareness, confidence, family pride, and positive social identities.

Goal 2Each child will express comfort and joy with human diversity; accurate language for human differences; and deep, caring human connections.

Goal 3Each child will increasingly recognize unfairness, have language to describe unfairness, and understand that unfairness hurts both the recipient and the perpetrator.

Goal 4Each child will demonstrate empowerment and the skills to act, with others or alone, against prejudice and/or discriminatory actions.

     Leadership Studies, 15
(4), 6-17. https://doi.org/10.1002/jls.21792.

Instructions on constructing your paragraph

In your summary, you will begin with a discussion of the research question the study is attempting to answer. You will summarize the research that was conducted and the specific findings that were uncovered. You will then provide a summary of what this means for the topic.

Next, you will discuss how the source compares with other sources in your paper and how useful is the source in attributing to your writing. You won’t use an in-text citation to reference the other source here. You should simply refer to the general topics the other sources are discussing and how this article fits with those.

Finally, you will discuss how the source is useful in your discussion. You will need to be specific on why it is important to use and exactly how you will use it in your writing to shape your arguments.

* You should use current sources written in the last five years.

* Do not use “I” in any of the annotations.

* Do not include an outline, you only need your annotation and paragraph (which will cover, summarize, assess, and reflect).

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Every Good Endeavor Reflection Assignment

Overview

Keller and Alsdorf (2012) states, “We must love our neighbor, but Christianity gives us very specific teachings about human nature and what makes human beings flourish. We must make sure that our work is done in line with these understandings. Faithful work, then, is to operate out of a Christian Worldview” (p. 21).

The different Christian traditions “give somewhat different answers of how we should go about the task of recapturing vocation. The streams are often confusing to Christians, for they are not perfectly complementary to one another” (Keller and Alsdorf, 2012, p. 21).

In these assignments, you will reflect on some of these sentiments that Keller and Alsdorf introduces in Every Good Endeavor and explore the ethical and legal foundations of their statements as they relate to business.

In your reflection, you will be asked to read a peer-reviewed article relate to the topic. Then you will reflect on the prompt from Keller and Alsdorfs’ book in light of this article. Attachment theory or personality disorder theories explain Annie’s  extreme and dangerous actions

In the film Misery  (1990), Annie Wilkes’ obsessive behavior and violent control over the  author, Paul Sheldon, illustrate a dangerous side of fandom. For this  journal entry, use attachment theory or theories of personality disorders to analyze Annie’s actions and motivations.

Consider the following questions in your analysis:

  • Attachment Theory: How might Annie’s past  experiences, relationships, and attachment style contribute to her  obsessive need for control over Paul? Discuss how insecure or  disorganized attachment could lead to extreme behavior when faced with  loss or abandonment. How does her obsession reflect a desire for  emotional connection, even if it manifests in violent and unhealthy  ways?
  • Theories of Personality Disorders: Consider whether Annie’s behavior fits the criteria for a personality disorder, such as borderline or narcissistic personality disorder.  How do characteristics like emotional instability, fear of abandonment,  or an exaggerated sense of self-importance explain her obsessive  control over Paul? Analyze how her inability to cope with rejection or  disappointment drives her violent actions.
  • How does Annie’s character portray the psychological dangers of  obsessive fandom? Reflect on how her relationship with Paul shifts from  adoration to aggression, and how her mental state plays a role in this  transformation.
  • Explore how the film represents the dangers of idolization and the need for control in relationships, particularly when those relationships are one-sided, as seen in parasocial dynamics.

Use specific scenes and behaviors from the film to illustrate how  attachment theory or personality disorder theories explain Annie’s  extreme and dangerous actions.

How do you assess President Truman’s role in the causes of the Cold War?

A clue: You should consider the  influence of the president’s advisers in addition to his own view of  communism and Stalin. You should especially compare Truman with Franklin  Roosevelt. Many believe that the Cold War could have been avoided had  Roosevelt been alive. Of course, you should examine the Soviet side,  too, to put Truman’s Cold War policy in context. More broadly, you  should address ideological differences and the developments during World  War II and in the latter half of the 1940s, including the historical  context on both the U.S. and Soviet sides such as the Monroe Doctrine  and German invasion of Russia through Eastern Europe.
