Success Narrative

Touchstones are projects that illustrate your comprehension of the course material, help you to refine skills, and demonstrate application of knowledge. You can work on a Touchstone anytime, but you can’t submit it for grading until you have completed the unit’s Milestone. After you’ve submitted a Touchstone, it will be graded and counted towards your final course score.

Every Good Endeavor Reflection Assignment

Instructions

Overview

Keller and Alsdorf (2012) states, “We must love our neighbor, but Christianity gives us very specific teachings about human nature and what makes human beings flourish. We must make sure that our work is done in line with these understandings. Faithful work, then, is to operate out of a Christian Worldview” (p. 21).

The different Christian traditions “give somewhat different answers of how we should go about the task of recapturing vocation. The streams are often confusing to Christians, for they are not perfectly complementary to one another” (Keller and Alsdorf, 2012, p. 21).

In these assignments, you will reflect on some of these sentiments that Keller and Alsdorf introduces in Every Good Endeavor and explore the ethical and legal foundations of their statements as they relate to business.

Instructions

Your assignment should include two paragraphs: one consisting of a reflection, and one on the legal and ethical implications for business.

In your reflection, you will be asked to read a peer-reviewed article relate to the topic. Then you will reflect on the prompt from Keller and Alsdorfs’ book in light of this article. In your second paragraph, you will discuss the ethical and legal implications of Keller and Alsdorfs’ statement from a business perspective. You should reference one peer-reviewed source and your Keller and Alsdorf text. You should also follow APA formatting for in-text citations.

You will complete three different reflection assignments based on the following schedule and prompts:

Module 3: Week 3

For the Every Good Endeavor Reflection: Shareholder Theory & Biblical Perspectives of Generosity Assignment, you will reflect on the following prompt:

“The way to serve God at work is to make as much money as you can, so that you can be as generous as you can.”

Module 5: Week 5

For the Every Good Endeavor Reflection: Stakeholder Theory & Social Justice Assignment, you will reflect on the following prompt:

“The way to serve God at work is to further social justice in the world.”

Module 7: Week 7

For the Every Good Endeavor Reflection: Cultural Engagement Assignment, you will reflect on the following prompt:

“The way to serve God is to work from a Christian motivation to glorify God, seeking to engage and influence culture to that end.”

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Fine Dining

For  the final assignment of the class, you will tie everything together in  an effort to build a successful restaurant with multiple locations. As  with the Week 2 assignment, you will work through a simulation titled  “Restaurant Mogul”, provide an explanation and critique of your  performance, and make comparisons to your own proposed food service  operation you have been examining since the first week of class [Industry Specialization]. Be sure to review instructions for all parts and use the Q & A forum if you have any questions.

(1) — The first part is to work through the simulation.

You can access the Restaurant Mogul simulation by clicking or by copying the following link:

ProSim – Knowledge Matters simulation

Having  completed previous assignments, you should be able to log in using the  login credentials you established when registering.

The  simulation will be on a larger scale than the week 2 assignment and you  will apply your knowledge to building a restaurant empire. You will  start by opening your first restaurant and address several key facets of  operations, such as pricing and staffing for example. Once you  establish a profitable restaurant, you will open the doors to a second  one, adding more restaurants to reach a total profit goal for the  business.

(2) — Provide an explanation and critique of simulation performance.

As with  the Week 2 simulation and assignment, you will be expected to provide a  summary of your experience. The summary will describe the scenario that  was presented to you, the decisions you had to make, and your reasoning  for the decisions you made. References are expected to support, refute,  or corroborate your perspective or reasoning. As a part of your summary,  you will need to describe the results you anticipated and what the  actual results were.

Your analysis will need to address the following simulation goals:

  • Select a location based on demographics and survey data.
  • Set up the business (layout, staffing, menu design, and purchasing).
  • Attract customers through advertising and social media.
  • Monitor ratings, messages, and financials.

Identify  relevant elements and variables, explain their significance or input,  and evaluate levels of performance and possible outcomes. The following  questions should be addressed in your analysis:

  • What aspect of restaurant operations did you focus on most? Which seemed to be most important?
  • Explain your strategy for locating a new restaurant and how you go about setting it up.
  • Discuss how all the functions of a restaurant must work together in order for it to succeed.
  • What parts of the simulation were most challenging for you? And why?
  • What elements of restaurant operation were not included in the simulation?

(3) — Identify and evaluate financial data and how it can be used.

Now that  you worked through opening multiple restaurants and considering the  concept you have proposed and examined, you will select three [3]  financial performance measures identified in Week 7 [financial performance measures] and the Cost-Volume-Profit  analysis and explain how those measures could be used with the  simulation restaurant[s] and your own concept. Using the simulation and  your concept as a basis of comparison, discuss  how each measure would be used to appraise operational performance and  provide a critique of what you can learn by using the selected measures  and how they might affect business decisions, planning, and achieving  your specific objectives for your concept.

Use the Internet and personal interviews to make comparisons to existing businesses when possible.

Continuity program

You will assume the role of an employee of an emergency manager at a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help low-income people in rural (country) and urban (city) communities. You will develop a proposal document for your supervisor proposing that the organization adopt a continuity plan. You will need to:

  • Briefly explain to them what an organizational continuity program is.
  • Convince them that the organization should establish a continuity program.

Your proposal should have sections covering the following topics. Each section should have a unique section header in your paper. So, your paper sections will likely have similar (but not exactly the same) titles as the sections listed below.

In your paper,

  • Explain what you will cover in the proposal in your introduction.
  • Discuss what a continuity program does in an organization as your background.
    • Describe organizational continuity as a concept and a process.;
    • Identify some practical considerations relative to your nonprofit in maintaining operations during disasters.
    • Identify some ethical considerations relative to your nonprofit in maintaining operations during disasters.
  • Explain how social vulnerability is relevant to your stakeholder population (low-income people) during disasters.
  • Discuss why your continuity program should avoid relying on disaster myths as the basis for the plan.
  • Describe what types of crime increase during disasters that might be expected among your stakeholder population (low-income people).;
  • Examine mental health considerations that might be relevant to your stakeholder population during disasters.
  • Review what was covered as your conclusion.
    • Synthesize your key topics from the proposal.

Overall, your goal is to justify the need for a continuity program at your nonprofit. The continuity program ensures that your organization maintains operations during a disaster and continues to assist its target stakeholders (low-income communities) facing the same disaster your nonprofit is facing.

Each major section covers one of your Course Learning Objectives from this course.

The Organizational Continuity Proposal

  • must be 8  pages double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages)
  • must include a separate title page with the following:
    • title of paper

must use at least seven scholarly, peer-reviewed sources from the required readings.

Annotated Bibliography and Reflection

During  the last seven weeks of class, you have been asked to read several  journal articles. You have been asked to reflect on your cultural  identity as you consider the many levels that constitute your identity.  You also considered attribution, dialectics, and how all of this is  applied to intercultural communication.

For our final assignment, you will choose four articles from  the articles you have been asked to read in class and/or from the  article list provided for the Week 6 assignment to create an Annotated Bibliography. You will complete three items for each of your four sources:

1. Reference: Complete an APA reference for each article

2. Annotation: Complete an annotation for each article.

  • The  annotation is not a summary or paraphrase. In this paragraph, you will  interpret and evaluate the contents of the article itself. It is a  narrative paragraph of about 100 words providing information and  assessment about the article.

3. Reflection:  Write a reflection for each article. The reflection should connect your  intercultural communication experience(s) with information from the  article as it applies to you personally (This section only can be written in first person).

  • In  this paragraph of about 100 words, relate the information that you have  evaluated in the article to your own cultural identity and intercultural  communication. This is a reflective piece where you are able to connect  the information in theory to an understanding of your own identity.
