Counter-Terrorism and Impact of Homeland security
After the devastating 9/11 attacks, the U.S. Homeland Security Ministry was formed to organize and unify its domestic security effort. Today the world is confronted with an advanced threat of terrorism and organized crime. At the same time, international terrorist organizations remain a priority for the Department and for the nation as a whole, making significant progress in identifying, preventing, securing, and mitigating the risks posed by these organizations. At the same time, we are faced with the increasing danger of domestic terrorism and other threats from home, including mass attacks on our worship facilities, our schools, working places, our festivals, and our shopping areas far more often.
The new Policy Structure for Fighting Terrorism and Targeted Violence outlines when to use resources and capabilities that have secured and strengthened the country from international terrorist groups and address today’s emerging challenges. Thus, the debate on ‘Terrorism’ has become part of our lives, as the media have become a key player in bringing the latest developments on this subject and keeping people updated and up-to-date. You really can’t stop it! Virtually, everybody has a personal point of view and a particular way of looking at this controversial topic. That’s why I chose the subject! It’s a very contemporary problem, so I think it’s worth looking at, researching, and analyzing.
The Federal Government has been working to identify terrorism and targeted violence as interconnected and interrelated, but this is the first national strategy to specifically claim that terrorism and targeted violence overlap, intersect, and connect as major concerns. A common set of solutions is required. This strategic framework demonstrates the essence of the domestic threats of today, including an extended evaluation of the dangers posed by domestic terrorists, including racially-and ethnically-motivated violent extremists, especially white supremacist violent extremists. The System stresses the importance of openness, the preservation of human rights and civil liberties, and data protection in the digital age. It specifically recognizes the need to help and protect our most vulnerable communities, particularly our young people.
The DHS Strategic Framework for Countering Terrorism and Targeted Violence is intentionally forward-looking through the role of technological advancement as a factor that can exacerbate problems and provide new solutions to the threats encountered by incorporating a modern approach to fighting extremism and targeted violence—harnessing the unique highly versatile approach of the Department. I remain assured that we will rise to the challenge through unwavering endurance, commitment, and unity of effort. The challenges facing our nation are important; we look at it through a whole-of-society approach that empowers our people, our national, local, tribal, and territorial authorities, as well as our private sector, non-governmental, and community leaders. The Department of Homeland Security will continue to respond to changing threats and strengthen our nation’s security to improve U.S. infrastructure security and community preparedness and recognize the emerging threat of terrorism and targeted violence in the society, and support partners in the domestic security enterprise through this advanced expertise. Therefore, counteract terrorists and other hostile actors from entering the United States by denying them the ability to manipulate trade, immigration, national, and international travel schemes.
