Unit 13 Assignment 5

The article faces many problems as we are left to wonder about the real reason behind the white house administration not allowing young immigrants granted reprieve from deportation to receive health care benefits. There has to be something going on for the removal of “young immigrants reprieved from deportation” from lawfully present just before they were declared to not receive health care benefits from the Obama’s health care reform. I believe it was done as a sacrifice in order to block republicans from using the same people to fight the existence of the reform. It would have been a great point of attack as mentioned in the article where it would seem as if President Obama is benefiting illegal immigrants as well as inviting more immigrants to come over to the United States.

I am of the opinion that the article does not close many things as per the reason for the denial of immigrants from receiving health care benefits. It just presents the ideas without proper refencing. That is true. But, I do not think Obama has the power to control immigration or solely form laws prohibiting immigrants from getting health care. He does not have the power to segregate a section of citizens unless such laws are passed by the senate.

Unit 13 Assignment 5

The fact that the administration officials declined to elaborate on the policy is hard to understand but easy to debate about. The coverage might save money by limiting health care but it is hurting people who need healthcare. Even Jennifer M., the health policy specialist said “We do not understand why the administration decided to do this. It’s providing immigration relief to children and young adults so they can be fully integrated into society. At the same time, it’s shutting them out of the health care system so they cannot become productive members of society.” Many people desperately need that health insurance and its scary to thing what happens to those whodunit have that coverage.

Yes, it is true so much is hidden in this article. I also tend to agree with Jennifer M, that shutting out the youth will render them ineffective in the long run. Furthermore, heath care coverage has become a basic need in the United States and its denial is unfair. I cannot believe the amount of money one has to pay for healthcare in the United States, the fee is high.

Unit 13 Assignment 6

In this article a great proposal is established that tell us not to fall for slippery slope arguments that create problems that are merely predictions when the creators of the argument have other hidden agendas. The application of the argument was applied to the health care reform that is forcing states to create a market place where individuals can shop for health care. I believe many of the individuals reporting that it is only giving power to congress to over see our entire health care sector just merely don’t want the law to be passed. There are means and strategies used to put these laws in place and these same people who have implemented these laws can always keep them in check if things are going wrong. In other words there isn’t a complete downfall where it will be too late to go back and this makes the slippery slope argument not very applicable to the new health care law.

Though the arguments tend to discourage readers from taking any step in making better the healthcare, in fear of taking a wrong turn, I believe that actions have to be taken. I agree with you that these slippery roads can be changed once something wrong is realized or detected. Of course, new laws have to be passed, new steps taken and amendments are sure way of taking care of any downfalls.
