Health Promotion Strategies
Some health promotion strategies that can be employed in a primary care setting include providing patients with early treatment, counseling, advice and referral, and screening patients for risk factors and disease. These two roles can go a long way in promoting global health. Although both strategies speak to individual care, when done collectively can contribute to positive health change at a global level. Clinicians should be actively involved in advising, counseling, and referring patients to institutions where they can get better care. Most people seem to be of the opinion that clinicians should treat patients with the conditions they are ailing; however, this is not true. They should take time to conduct thorough assessments and advise their patients on the best ways to take care of their health. It is also the duty of patients to ask questions and request explanations about their conditions. This way, the patients I better placed to care for themselves even in the absence of the clinician and make decisions that will help them improve their health. Screening is also important in global health promotion as it keeps people informed about the conditions they are likely to suffer. By assessing a patient’s family history and screening them, clinicians are likely to tell when a patient is at risk of suffering from conditions such as cancer. By screening them early, it is possible to treat the condition in the early stages hence saving their lives.
